TOMAS MEDEK

Tomas Medek deals with the structures of objects, their interior, and their transparency. In the beginning, he worked with basic geometric shapes like cubes or cuboids. From 2000 he developed his series Bio-Insight: starting from simple organic figures such as a pumpkin, bell pepper, or a shell, he developed complex shapes with ribbed structure, reminiscent of spatial networks of 3D computer graphics.

With the technological progress of 3D printers, it was only a small step for Medek to realize his objects with them as well. Since 2005, some of his works have come directly from the 3D printer as unique pieces, but others are still made by hand.

The two works "Ulitospiral" and "Diatom", which Tomas Medek designed for BullionArt, come as a model from a 3D printer. From this, again, a mold was taken quite classically to cast them in fine silver. To realize these works of art you need not only a spectacular design with the latest technologies but also perfect craftsmanship of the classical kind.
